Over the years, I've always enjoyed the time we've spent together ... your slow-paced days have nourished me with the time I need to slow down, take a breath, and collect myself ... I can always count on you as a time to clean up and get organized after the holiday chaos, a time to reflect on the year that's passed, and a time to make resolutions and goals for the year to come. But this year's been a little different - actually it's been a lot different. What happened to my slow-paced days of reflection? Or my New Year's resolutions for that matter? How is it that your days have all slipped right through my fingers? Was it the fact that we haven't yet had a full 5-day school week? I admit, momentum's been hard to gather with all of these snow days messing with my calendar. And while we're on the subject of snow, dear January ... I think you could have gone a bit more lightly on this fragile little Floridian soul. Just sayin'. I mean, please, it's only January 31st and we're already 18.5 inches above the average for an entire season?! The Shaq-o-meter doesn't lie ...
Listen, January, I've been a brave soldier these last 16+ years in New England and I always try my best to just casually roll with those winter punches you dole out. In fact, I was here for that all-time record 102.8-inch season in '95-'96 and I was very pleasant about it. But back then I was a newlywed with a full time teaching job and no children of my own ... snow days had a whole different meaning for me - like sleeping in and quiet time to myself, for starters. Heck, we didn't even need to shovel - that was the landlord's responsibility. But this time around, dear January, I think the excessive snow days are really pushing me to my limit. My back is sore, my children are stir-crazy, and my thoughts and plans can't get any traction with all these interruptions. If you're feeling any sympathy at all, dear January, could you please just do me one favor? Would you mind talking to February about her opening plans?

great post Sloan. . .
We are expecting some big snow finally and I am hoping for A snow day, just one. . .it just wouldn't be winter without one right?
Maybe it will be an early spring????
can you believe this? And why is it always on Wed.? Love the Shaq-o-meter!
Cute post, Sloan!
Oh dear, Lord. That is not good. Not good at all. My sister in CT has already had her shed roof cave in and spent yesterday clearing snow off her house roof for fear that would cave under the pressure.
Get that popover pan greased! Sorry to say, I think you're in for another week of snow days.
Wow, you need a little break from the snow!
Love the Shaquille o meter too!
I was wondering if this winter was extreme. Seems like it, for you guys.
And don't count on Shaq too long. He blew into and out of Phoenix about as fast as a spring squall.
oh my goodness! here we go again!!!...i don't know whether to laugh or cry.
this is the cutest post. so well done Sloan!
l luv Jen's comment about Shaq. Go see him now! Was he even in Cleveland for a whole season?
the popovers were a success!! hugs, cathy
Too funny Sloan! LOVE the Shaq-o-meter! My husband took tomorrow off work so we could go shopping and out to lunch (alone)...but now we are to get snow and ice overnight...which means probably no school. I'm bummed big time...my husband might as well just work tomorrow anyway.
We got a note from our principal on Friday that she is taking a job in Harvard, Mass. (where she grew up) and this will be her last year at our school. She is the BEST...we're really sad to see her go. Are you close to Harvard?
Oh goodness...we are supposed to get quite a bit too.
I already hit Redbox and the grocery store so we are set. And of course Dave is out of town AGAIN!!!
Praying for a warm February...is that possible?!?:)
Enjoy the day
We are expecting ice with a touch of snow tomorrow. You have definitely had your fair share of snow this winter! I'm crossing my fingers for a beautiful, early spring for you! :)
Great post!
Shaq inches. Love it.
We'll take some of your snow...send it on down.
Hang in there!
