the half birthdays ...

Not sure when or how it all started with the ladybugs, but for as long as I can remember I've always made it a habit to recognize their "half" birthdays ...

It's very low key - in fact, they rarely remember that the day is upon us until they see their tiny "half" cupcake and a single gift (always a book) on the kitchen table upon their return from school. Little ladybug's half birthday was in December - nine and a half - that means that come June 8th, my little bug's gonna have a big double-digit birthday to celebrate! I can hardly believe it ...

(enough pictures, mom, I'm reading!)

... And big ladybug's half birthday was this past Tuesday. My sweet first-born baby girl is just a half a year away from thirteen - wait, did I just say thirteen? There must be some mistake, that can't be right ...

(if you noticed that this cupcake is not a "half" sized cupcake, you're right - she scored big because the bakery was out of the minis on Tuesday!)

I love these two little ladybugs more than words can say ... I sigh and get a little lump in my throat with every birthday and, yes, even the half birthdays - where has the time gone? How is it possible they're this grown up already? Happy Half Birthday to both of my beautiful babies, my sugar and spice, my treasured little ladybugs ... xoxo ... Love, Mom

Oh my gosh, Sloan...don't get me started on where has the time gone. Your little miss 12 1/2 is just beautiful and even though mine is only 14 3/4...I can tell you it just gets better and better, and harder and harder to think about the time.
We took Em to visit a college this past weekend. We have to start visiting early because she is hoping to play volleyball somewhere. I just couldn't believe it...but I was sooo excited for her too.
We really should celebrate all we can..the time is def. not slowing down in favor of us Moms.

And Wii Zumba just might be the answer!

Half birthdays and books...were we twins in another life?!?!:)
I might just borrow your mini cupcake idea for next time, we have a cute little bakery in town and they are YUMMY! Any excuse to go would be good.
Happy Halfsies to all your lucky little lady bugs!!
Enjoy the night

I bake a cake for the 1/2 birthday...what was I thinking? I like the cupcake idea! I have the same plate as you...except in red. Love the black one!

Your little ladybug looks so much younger than 9 years old!

Time does go by so quickly. I honestly can't think about it for too long because it can just consume me and get me really down.

Have a great weekend!

Your girls are beautiful. I love the idea of celebrating half birthdays. I missed doing Boyd's this year, even though I had every intention of doing it. I will do it next year. Love your photos!

Sloan, That is such a sweet idea to celebrate half birthdays! And the little cupcake and a book. Perfect! I wish I would have done that with my boys growing up.
Have a pretty day!

Such a fun idea that I might have to steal. We used to do this, I'd bake a half a cake, but it's been AGES if not years! Great post, Sloan. Love it!

Its hard to realize how fast time goes isn't it??? once they hit the double digits it just seems like it goes even faster.

Pretty soon we will be like Jen and looking at colleges!

I guess we are going to have to root for the Pack now. My hubby is a big Bears fan and he just can't bring himself to cheer for the Pack. . .he declares that he is not going to watch the superbowl this year:) Because he also really doesn't like the Steelers!

Sloane,
I've often thought of doing this, but I didn't know how. A mini cupcake, what a great idea. And a book? Even better. Thanks for sharing this. Enjoy every single moment. Like Jen I'm already seeing the adult years looming far too close.
