shortly before isabel the pug came into our lives,
little ladybug got a fish ...
a special pet that was all hers ...

a colorful betta fish ...
who lived in a bowl on her desk ...
in her bedroom ...
she named him fred ...
after fred mertz from i love lucy ...
after fred mertz from i love lucy ...
he was chosen with great care ...
so grand and colorful ...
just like her ...
she took incredibly good care of him ...
a doting fish momma ...
and they were happy together ...
but this past week fred hadn't been doing too well ...
no eating ...
no energy ...
and lots of hanging around near the surface ...
and today after school, poor fred was belly up ...
there were tears, of course ...
but then, true to little ladybug's nature, there was action ...
a fancy coffin was made ...
with a comfortable mattress ...
for his eternal slumber ...
for his eternal slumber ...
and all of his favorite tank items laid out to surround him ...
a photo of fred at his finest was placed onto the cover ...
a hole was dug by a gorgeous hydrangea in the yard ...
and his favorite blue tank water was poured over his grave ...
and a new screensaver was created in his honor ...
RIP, dear fred ...
thank you for bringing my little ladybug such joy ...

awwww, poor Fred.
That is the sweetest thing ever. We have never buried any of our fish...i have no idea why. All the hampsters,lizards etc...yes.
I love the box and the sweet message. RIP Fred!
Wow, was Fred lucky or what?! I think most fish just get flushed right down the toilet! Little ladybug is just the sweetest girl...maybe in 15 years we could introduce our kids to each other. :)

What a sweet tribute and that little fish coffin! I love that you went to great lengths to give him a good resting place and a little peace of mind for your daughter.
Sweet Fred. We, too, made a rock for our fish that have died...after we flushed them down the toilet. I sure wish fish would stick around a little longer!
LLB is sooooo sweet! What an amazing sendoff for Fred. She needs to get together with Phaedra and go into the funeral business.
I hope LLB's heart is healing.
