no rest for the weary ...

One of my favorites - I hope you'll listen to it while you're here (there's no video, it's just a pretty Christmas song) ...

I have definitely gone underground over the last week - it's the point in the holiday season where I need to dig deep and develop superhuman focus in order to power through my overwhelming to-do list. This is the point where my bedtime is at least an hour or two late each night and I'm generally in motion for a good 14 hours a day. Front and center on my list? Gifts. I finished the brainstorming and the purchasing last week, then over the weekend I powered through the wrapping of all the gifts that need to be shipped, and today I was actually able to package them all up ...

Tomorrow, they'll all get shipped out and I can start the next huge task on my list - the cards ... they arrived 3 weeks ago, but I just didn't have the energy to face it. Problem is, I'm one of the last holdouts I know who still addresses each envelope by hand. Did I mention that we send out about 135 each year? The idea of all those envelopes is pretty scary ... but I've always said that if you have too many cards to handwrite them all, then you're sending too many cards - problem is, I can't cut my list enough to make a difference! I'm really stuck on this one, friends ... I just don't know if I can make the move to the dark side and convert to labels ... what are your thoughts on handwritten vs. label on your envelopes? Please be honest, I'm really struggling with this one ...

Anyway, regardless of the envelope, I really love our card this year - so once the cards are sent out, I can link up with Cathy's 'card reveal' linkfest as well as share with all of you - should be by Thursday, and I can't wait! But of course, it won't be over that point ... because then .... I'll need to start the final projects on the to-do list: the baking of Christmas cookies and the wrapping of all the gifts that don't require shipping - the ones for all of our local friends and family, our teachers and coaches, and of course, the ones for my favorite little ladybugs!

I have to admit, once I reach the point where I'm baking and wrapping my own kids' gifts ... that's when I start to get pretty excited - that's always my homestretch - the point where I can stop stressing about the to-do's and start enjoying all the joys of the season ... look out, Christmas, I'm closing in!

Why is it so stressful? I'm hanging on by a thread, and I thought I was pretty on top of things.
Sigh.

I still don't have my Christmas cards done yet either...I ordered them but they're not here yet! You know, I always hand write my envelopes...but I have to say, I don't think anything about the ones that people send that have a label on them. I'm just happy to be getting a Christmas card!
Sounds like you buy a lot of gifts for a lot of different people. A few years ago we cut our list way down...makes it so much easier. A lot of family wanted to just do fort he kids...so for bil's and sil's I just give cookies and candy. I also have family that I have to ship things to...always trying to get things mailed in time! Each year I say I'm going to be more on top of things...and each year I am scrambling til the end! Good luck getting everything done!

oh Sloan, let the handwriting go...135 is a lot. Of course I always handmake my cards (only 85) so who am I to talk? But I have always done that so I continue to do it:)

I still have to mail David's dad and aunt their presents. . .why is this my responsiblity? Because the years I waited, he spent a small fortune on overnight shipping on Christmas Eve!

Ok..I'm with you on the handwritten cards. I don't do labeled addresses however I ALWAYS have the card company print our address on the back..one less thing to write! Before you know it we'll be in an age when people don't even send cards...sigh. You sound as busy as me...soon it'll be over and then what'll we do?? Enjoy!

Handwritten cards ... another reason to like you:). I will say that I do have a fun return address stamp that I purchased when we bought our house a couple of years ago ... so enjoy it as do the girls (they love to watch the stamp flip and turn as it approaches the envelope). But, like you, I have trouble shaking the old ways and this year I purchased a wood handled rubber stamp. It is great and so much prettier than a label, I think.

Got your card today.

Inside was a beautiful photographs of two stunningly gorgeous creatures.

On the outside?

The best damn LABEL I've ever received.

Ha. Silly girl. Glad you let it go.
